A Cosmic Drama by Mat Mann (NSFW)

Mat Mann was born in 1980 in London, UK. He makes photos, paintings and poems.

In an allegory of the human psyche, luminous archetypes shimmer against a dark void with a diaphanous spirituality…

“My work is about the division of Being into opposing activities – symbolically male and female – and the nature of that relationship.”

Inspired by Gnostic Symbolism and the themes of Romanticism, Mann presents the cosmic drama as a relationship of primordial beings.

“I see the universe, like the ancient mystics, as a single identity divided against itself. And I want to evoke all the beauty and strangeness of that visually.”

Manns’ technique amplifies movement, blur, and grain to create the atmosphere of an inner image, a memory or a dream.

“I’m bringing all the dualities together, including the ancient past and the distant future, into an actual, physical, emotional relationship, itself a mysterious third entity with a character of it’s own.” The effect is a timeless poem of aesthetic and philosophical contemplation, erotic sensuality and latent conflict.

Mat Mann is a new British artist currently working in photography. After studying at Camberwell college of Arts, he began a lengthy investigation of the worlds’ mystery traditions that continues to inform his work.
