Autistic Solitude vs. Loneliness: the B Shot by a Stranger project

While we can experience solitude – as part of our personality or as a fulfilment by itself -, being or feeling lonely is quite a different thing. Solitude is great, you feel independent, you’re able to deal with your own self, you create and you have time and you enjoy being with yourself. Loneliness can be the opposite feeling, as you feel empty and you need someone else to fulfil that lack of self. Usually loneliness comes when you lost someone, or when you can’t find your own self.

This series of B Shot by a Stranger meets autistic solitude with loneliness.
As autistic and artist I’m always creating, no matter if drawing, painting, shooting, writing, reading, studying or cooking. I enjoy the time spent with myself. It’s my way of communicating with the world and because of that I’ve never felt lonely. Loneliness is as strange for me as other social feelings and needs.

B Shot by a Stranger started as a sociological project to understand and give some lift moments to loners in this screenager’s time in which we live in. Sharing my understanding and fulfilment of solitude with loners who are somehow lost within themselves. Naked of labels these fragile youngsters can have their own moment of attention at the same time that they spend a good and valuable time participating in an art project that is also sociological and perhaps a psychological game between the Stranger and the Loner. Or as some called: a game between voyeur and exhibitionist, once using a camera as a voyeuristic tool, they exhibit their own vulnerable beings allowing to be seen in their own private and intimate moments of loneliness.

I’ve been there as witness of their own lonely moments, not being, not interfering, allowing and respecting their own privacy and intimate rituals of loneliness.

One thing that makes me continue this B Shot by a Stranger is exactly that: their feedback is great, respectful and they all end up having a great moment and experience. In our childhood we are taught not to talk to strangers, as if people you don’t know exist for the only purpose of cuting you in pieces. Here I’m proving the opposite, that we can learn and spend good time with a stranger… your own private voyeur.

Here are some new images from this B Shot by a Stranger game.
