Hybrids (NSFW)

Hybrids” is a series of photographs with half humans half animals, part of the exhibition “The Imaginary Beings” inspired in the homonymous book by Jorge Luis Borges, in the classic mythology, Palaeolithic shamanism and in the Medieval Bestiary, to be held soon for the first time with around 25 new works.

The exhibition will have 3 parts, or sub-series: “The Animals” which are imaginary of animals in imaginary landscapes, using photography and Chinese Ink; these “Hybrids” here presented; and finally the series “Totem“, which are conceptual self-portraits inspired in old shamanism from different cultures.

I believe that the first era of sensitive men didn’t invent gods as they were aware enough of the true spirits of nature as it was, aware of the senses of the animals, becoming true shamans with a deep knowledge of living nature and its spirits. Hence why in their own believes and wisdom, if they wanted to hunt, they would represent themselves with heads of wolves – for a better vision; or body of horse – to become faster; or horns of bull – to become stronger. Later on, these hybrids became gods, like in Egypt or Greece, giving them skilled legends and creating new mythologies.

Even now, wherever you go spend the carnival, specially if you go to Venice/Italy, you’ll see people wearing masks of birds or any other animal that maybe are the one’s Totem.

These Imaginary Beings‘ series are a tribute to those wise gods who brought wisdom and new skills to humanity. No matter if legend or not, as long as you have faith, you too can have the power to recreate your own self.
